The Workshop Shoes.
Default Title -
In the past few years one of the focus of my work has been rethinking processes of shoes production.
New ways of making, with old and new materials, to rethink the life and essence of a needful and often loved accessory.
Shoes made with recycled materials from improvised cobbler in Rwanda.
Shoes designed to be repaired with the aim of refurbish repairing culture in our times.
Downloadable Shoes that exist as blueprints and can be produced in the vast network of FabLabs, with the use of only digital fabrication.
I researched production working with traditional craft, innovative technologies and learning also from mainstream industrial processes (Camper shoes workshop). I looked into recycled materials like old tires and into new one like 3d printed rubber.
For the Workshop Residence i am interest in developing a model of shoes related to the local context.
Looking into local craft (digital and traditional) and local material (raw and regenerated) i would like to transform the workshop space in a open production line for shoes.
A production line based on simplified assembling methods, open in terms of design and production.
Creating a system for design that is accessible, flexible and with components that invite repair, adaptation and intervention based on a dialogue rather than and definite blueprint.
My challenge would be to design a model of street shoes, and his system of production, strongly interwoven with the local maker scene.
According to the local resources, in terms of skills, technologies and material, i am interest in designing a model of shoes that is not only local but promote a new relationship between the “consumer” and the product.
A new relationship where the consumer own the skills behind the production, own control over the life cycle of the shoes, maybe making them and/or repairing them.
A relationship where the consumer doesn’t own the shoes only as the material they are made of, mostly an agglomerate of different inseparable materials, that just age toward an inevitable end.
One intense month of work to create a product that through his realization and use can promote a different way of designing, making and consuming.
The images i’m submitting are there to present you my previous experiences.
I saw that one of the past resident designed some high heels shoes, i intend to design only street wear shoes.
