Lost Shoe Series
Default Title -
I propose a residency in which I create a series of fanciful high heels that explore issues of class and distinction. The project is generated by my Antoinette "Lost Shoe Series". It seems poetic that after exorbitant purchases, economic downfall, and a revolution, that only a single shoe, baby bonnet, a small corset and a swatch book of fabrics remain of Marie Antoinette's exorbitant purchases for herself and gifts she gave to her ladies in her court. As a fabric sculptor I am delighted by extraordinary high heels as they seem like mini-sculptures that walk and go places.
I have the vision for this project, but I would like to partner with a shoe manufacturing team to help me with the technical and engineering details. Two that I admire are Fluevog in San Francisco for their unique and comfortable construction and Berkeley Resole in Berkeley for their stellar shoe repair.
I would like the shoes to be tailor specific to each individual, so that they are extremely comfortable and well fitted, even though they are extremely structured. Ideally, the inside of the shoes can be custom molded. Salomon inline skates have this feature, when the foot is first introduced into the shoe, the shoe molds to fit it.
