Color Shifts in Simple Shapes
Default Title -
Should I be lucky enough to be selected for a Workshop residency, I propose to make 4 table painting/sculptures. I envision these small shaped metal works to be brightly painted with simple planes of color, including a simple fold which would make the works 3-dimensional. The painted forms would be powder-coated to make them touch friendly. Along with these painting/sculpture hybrids which I see functioning as table centerpieces, I would like to make a set of silk-screened prints with similar shapes and colors. The three images attached labeled 'prototypes' are works on paper which serve to show my idea for one of the works, both front and back. The other three works on paper images can give you an idea of the look of the screenprints I envision making. My piece 'Multiplying Cells' has the interactive quality that inspired my new project idea.
Dispatch from NYC: I just returned from the amazing Lygia Clark show at MoMA! I was completely inspired by her Bichos (Creatures) series. These folded metal works sit on a tabletop and are meant to be interacted with. I won't have moving parts, but I see mine as touchable works with color and form which change depending on point of view and vantage point.
