This is a coffee table that measures about 20" tall. The hand-cut tabletop, which measures about 32" x 32" is vertical grain fir with a hi-gloss polyurethane finish. The open base of the table is made up of 22 powder coated, CNC plasma cut steel waves that can be taken apart and reconstructed into different color patterns. The overall structure is lightweight and sturdy. Incidentally, cats also love to sit inside the steel base. The images included are of a prototype I created this spring as well as one additional image of a pair of lamps I designed and built.
I can imagine exploring formal and structural variations to the color, size and shape of the metal base. I would also like to experiment with organic CNC cut wood shapes for the top of the table. Finally, the construction and deconstruction of the metal base is labor intensive? Could there be a similarly configurable table that takes only minutes to change around?
